Provençal Life

Eygalières, France

French studio Hauvette & Madani render a contemporary Provençal house with living spaces that thrive in summer but are designed to support everyday life in all seasons

In Eygalières, a small village nestled in the Alpilles in the South of France, the French architects, and designers Samantha Hauvette and Lucas Madani have conceived a family home shaped around the rituals of summer. Rather than designing a seasonal retreat, the duo envisioned a house that quietly supports everyday life.

Living spaces open generously onto the garden, daylight moves through the interiors from morning until evening, and each room is arranged to encourage long meals, shared moments, and an unhurried pace.

Inside, Hauvette & Madani offer a contemporary reading of the Provençal house. Bedrooms and living spaces unfold through a restrained palette of timber, natural stone, and tactile materials, warmed by earthy tones. Pieces from their Amuse-Bouche furniture collection sit alongside carefully sourced antiques, locally found objects, handcrafted ceramics, and selected artworks, creating interiors that feel layered over time rather than decorated all at once.

Outside, the landscape becomes an extension of the house. Olive trees, jasmine, climbing vines and an organic kitchen garden frame a swimming pool and a pétanque court, naturally dividing the property into a series of outdoor rooms where much of the day unfolds. Lunch lingers beneath the shaded terrace, doors remain open to the garden, and the changing seasons gradually alter the colours of the surrounding landscape.

More than a holiday home, Hauvette & Madani propose a distinctly contemporary way of living in Provence, understated, generous and deeply rooted in the simple pleasure of spending time together.
