Feat of Nature
Tai Ping teams with British designer Sebastian Cox to set the scene for its new Biophilic Collection, which is rooted in the natural world
As London Design Festival draws to a close, Tai Ping’s Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping are a highlight of the week. The installation in the brand’s Fulham Road showroom beautifully showcases the made-to-order collection constructed of undyed, natural and sustainable materials, inspired by organic forms and landscapes. As part of the week, British furniture designer Sebastian Cox was enlisted to create scenography to set off Tai Ping’s low-impact philosophy for the collection, which chimes with Cox’s own environmentally conscious approach to making furniture and objects.
In the showroom, bespoke elements crafted in wood by Cox are an apt stage for the Biophilic rugs – as they forge a link between the natural world and the raw materials used for the pieces.
The 16 carpets (eight for the Biophilic Collection and another eight for the Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping) are designed in a palette of beige, white and off white with contrasting pile-heights and an array of tufting techniques that create an understated yet engaging result. What’s more, a no-dye production process means that considerably less water is used – one of the various environmental benefits of the range.
