Elevated Elegance
At this year’s Milan furniture fair, Edra shone with four radiant launches
Famed for its elegant furniture design and loyal collaborations with artistically inclined designers, Italian furniture brand Edra added sparkle to the Salone del Mobile in Milan 2023.
Jacopo Foggini created not one but two collections. First up Diamante, which as the name suggests, consists of glimmering side and coffee tables on an epic scale. Living up to Foggini’s reputation for experimenting with materials, the Milan-based designer has created a green glass effect by hand-weaving a transparent polycarbonate into a surface texture that resembles a diamond. Using advanced technologies, each product has a one-of-a-kind finish, making these tables akin to a set of sculptures.
The Veronica collection also plays with the transparencies of classic glass, yet consists of a single weave of polycarbonate, shaped by hand into low armchairs and three differently shaped side tables. A successful result of intense research, these mono-nature elements capture the light to reflect a plethora of unexpected patterns. And like many Edra products, the Veronica range can be placed indoors or outdoors due to its water-resistant surface design.
The Jubilé mirror by the Brazilian Campana brothers also works with the magic of light and reflections. And yet, this large mirror has its own personality, combining 25 irregular shaped fragments of glass into one mesmerising landscape. The elements of play and performance encapsulate the Campana brothers’ design philosophy, with the grinding technique elevating each mirror as if a piece of art. These mirrors can be hung horizontally or vertically, framing each setting in unexpected ways.
And last but not least, the Standway sofa by Francesco Binfaré is seating design at its best. Simple yet sensuous, the sofa is an evolution of Binfaré and Edra’s long-standing relationship. The Milanese designer grounds his creations in beauty and comfort, while using the smart cushion – Edra’s exclusive Gellyfoam® invention – to create soft seating that moulds to your body. With its suspended legs the sofa seems to float; a modern classic in the making.
